4. THE COMPREHENSIVE CLINICAL CANCER PREVENTION PROGRAM
- Purpose: The burden of cancer is still on the rise worldwide, with over 18 million new cases and 9.6 million deaths, most of which are among the medically underserved. However, based on current knowledge, a significant number of these cancers are preventable, and upon diagnoses can be managed such that some are cured, or at the least, lives can be prolonged.
- Our Objectives: In order to foster the reduction of the burden of cancer on humanity, we propose to develop and establish a Clinical Cancer Prevention Program with the following objectives.
- Primary Prevention – Risk assessment and counseling, vaccinations, and other therapeutic interventions.
- Secondary Prevention – Early detection (i.e. screening) and follow-up (i.e. patient navigation);
- Tertiary Prevention – Fostering timely therapeutic interventions, post-treatment surveillance, and other strategies.
- Research, Publication and Capacity Building on Cancer – We would also conduct clinical research in order to generate new information that would upon dissemination, serve to foster a better understanding of the disease burdens and the effectiveness of various interventions in various populations globally.
